IBEW Local 6 is actively looking for workers and contractors who perform VDV work to come in and sign up, and get involved with this exciting new industry in San Francisco.
Installers and Technicians
Acceptance into our State certified Apprenticeship program.
If you have experience working in the VDV industry as a journeyperson, outside of the IBEW, then you may register in person on our “out of work” list. We will refer you to a Union shop when requests for technicians or installers are received.
If you are currently employed and all of your co-workers want union representation, then an IBEW Local 6 Membership Development Representative can help you seek recognition from the employer and bring the whole shop into membership. Currently there are needs in the security/access control sector and in the audio/visual sector.
Employers
To become a signatory contractor in the VDV market, a California contractor’s license for low voltage (C-7) or General Electrical license (C-10) should be in your possession.
After the license is obtained, a surety bond for the protection of fringe benefits is required with either a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) bond or certificate of deposit by a bank. Finally, make an appointment with the Membership Development Department for a meeting to discuss essentials for signing and working under the VDV contract.
The Membership Development Department will help you with the rest of the process.
